WCC-EUROPE EUNIQUE AWARD 2010 |

The WCC-Europe EUNIQUE Award for Contemporary Crafts 2010 was chosen amongst the approx. 400 participants of the fair "EUNIQUE - arts & crafts 2010" in Karlsruhe, Germany, June 11 to 13, 2010.
The WCC-Europe Board has decided to chose again “EUNIQUE”, the new European fair devoted to applied arts and design with an important participation of craftspeople from a number of European countries.
The criteria for the WCC-Europe EUNIQUE Award are:
fine original craftsmanship, choice of appropriate material for the object, originality
and adherence to the theme of given exhibition. The award which the WCC-Europe gives is an artistic rather than a monetary one,
as it is a price symbolic of the artistic excellence of craftsmanship, on an international level.
The prize winner’s donation is a diploma, the WCC-Europe honorary membership and a free both for
the next years EUNIQUE fair in Karlsruhe/Germany.
The Jury selecting the award winner had been appointed by WCC-Europe.

Statement of the Jury:
The World Crafts Council-Europe EUNIQUE Award 2010 is given to an artist who developed
a new interpretation of the material porcelain.
She is using a special technique to create sculptural works which suggest associations to
the basic forms of life.

Statement of the Jury:
The award is given to the maker of an object which has accompanied mankind throughout all cultural eras
– and which continues to accompany the individual throughout life.
The award winner took the object from pure functionality through to a conceptual piece of art. The alliance of craftsmanship and intellectual process originated from a personal challenge and represents contemporary
applied art on the highest level.

WCC-EUROPE AWARD 2008 |

The WCC-Europe Award for Contemporary Crafts 2008 was chosen amongst the participants of the "European Glass Context 2008" in Bornholm, Denmark, September 13, 2008.
The WCC-Europe Board has decided to chose “European Glass Context 2008”, a biennial symposium
for European contemporary glass and ceramics as the annual event to give the 2008 Award. This biennial symposium took place on the Island of Bornholm, Denmark in September and October 2008.
For the first time this event presented contemporary European glass. Through exhibitions, conference, workshops, master classes and a technical display an opportunity did arise to discuss and experience
the situation of European glass today. All of the 27 members of the European Union are participating,
as well as Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
The Jury selecting the award winner had been appointed by WCC-Europe.

The WCC-Europe Award for Contemporary Crafts 2007 has been chosen amongst the participants of the Artifact Contemporary Crafts Fair that took place in Bruges (Belgium) from 21 to 23 April 2007.

The statement of the Jury is:
The WCC-Europe Award for Contemporary Crafts 2007 is given to Jean-Louis Hurlin for his ability to transform hard steel into poetry and his use of a very ancient technique (damas) to create contemporary objects of high craftmanship.
As it is the tradition for this Award, the winner received a work of art made by the winner of the previous year.
In this case, Jean-Louis Hurlin received a paper jewel from Ritsuko Ogura who won the WCC-Europe Award in 2006 at the occasion of the Koru II Jewel exhibition in Lappeenranta, Finland.

WCC-EUROPE AWARD 2006 |

In 2006 the winner has been chosen amongst the artists from the KORU 2, International Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition which took place in Lappeenranta, South East Finland, from 18 to 20 June 2006.
The winner of the WCC-Europe Award for Contemporary Crafts 2006 is RITSUKO OGURA from Japan.
The jury highly appreciated the remarkable and achieved technical work, the juxtaposition of opposites- the very hard and eternal and the soft, transitory material of paper. All accomplished with joy and meticulous precision. Each piece expresses a tiny and strong architecture.

The winner of the WCC-Europe Award 2005 is
Machteld van Joolingen from the Netherlands.
Her work was chosen by a jury of international specialists amongst the exhibits of the Northern Fibre 6 exhibition which is being shown at the Kerava Arts Museum (Finland) until 18th September 2005.
The jury admired Machteld’s exhibits for the very personal combination of historical references and contemporary materials and techniques; and satisfying forms with hidden messages. In short, exemplary pieces of craftwork.

Every year, since 1993, the WCC-Europe has carefully reviewed the merits of numerous artistic competitions and exhibitions held throughout Europe. After a rigorous selection process, the WCC-Europe honours one such competition and exhibition of international importance yearly, by awarding a prize to one participant in the chosen event.
The criteria for the awarding of the WCC-Europe's prize are: fine and original craftsman-ship, choice of appropriate material for the object, originality, functionality and adherence to the theme of the given exhibition.
The award which the WCC-Europe gives, is an artistic rather than a monetary one, as it is a prize symbolic of the artistic excellence of craftsmanship, on an international level.
The prize consists of a trophy, in the form of a work of art made by the last recipient, in the material in which the latter normally works. In addition, the chosen artist receives a diploma and free membership as a "Honorary Member of WCC-Europe", entitling him or her to the newsletter, network of contacts and all other membership benefits.
